Date: Wednesday 21 October
The Internet Society (Netsoc) is organising two sessions next week to inform societies about Data Protection issues, and how it affects you. It would be great if at least one officer from each society could attend on one of the following days, and of course, it is open to any interested students.
They will take place in LB04 in the Lloyd Building from 1-2 on Wednesday 21st and in AP3.19 in Aras an Phiarsaigh from 12:30-1:30 on Friday. There will be a short reception with tea/coffee+sandwiches after each presentation.
The sessions will be given by a representative of the Irish Computer Society, a non
profit organisation devoted to the development of ICT skills in Ireland. It will consist of a brief, 45-minute review of the key concepts and structures within the Irish Data Protection legislation.
The presentation is aimed at those with management responsibility for personal data (e.g. membership lists etc.), as well as those seeking an overview of the legislation.
The training is generic, rather than sector- or industry-specific.
The course will cover:
· A brief history of the Irish Legislation
· The key definitions and concepts
· The Rules pertaining to Data Controllers
· The Rights afforded to Data Subjects
· The Enforcement Mechanisms of the DP Commissioner
There will be an opportunity for Q&A following the presentation.
Hand-outs of the slides will be provided.
