“Shit Happenings” Ruth McLeod, Homeless International

 Ruth McLeod is the founder and first CE of Homeless International, a UK charity that supports community-driven settlement development in Africa and Asia. She has worked for more than twenty five years on urban development issues in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Ruth’s presentation – Shit Happenings – will focus on the political economy and social aspects of toilet and sanitation provision in the developing world. From the flying toilets of Kampala to the toilet festivals of Mumbai there will be a chance to explore the realities of existing sanitation and the options that exist to use toilets as an entry point into mainstream development.

It should be an eye opener to the world of sanitation that we take for granted.
