Welcome to CSC!

The Central Societies Committee (CSC) is the body responsible for student societies in Trinity College.

Chairperson Cian McCarthy

Hi, I'm Cian, the CSC Chair. I'm a Philosophy and Economics student, and have been lucky enough in college to be given the chance to do a lot of things with college societies. I have been treasurer and Chair of Trinity Singers Society, Treasurer of Trinity Arts Festival, and Amenities Officer of the CSC and all these roles have not only made societies the best part of being in college for me, but have also given me a lot of experience that I hope I can bring to the role of Chair to help you run your societies.

As Chair, my main job is to ensure the smooth running of the CSC, including chairing the meetings of the executive, maintaining good staff relations within the office, and being societies' representative to the college. Feel free to email me or talk to me in person about any issue you have with running your society, or with another society. I'm here to help, so whether you need advice on running an event, information about how the CSC works or feel you want to make a complaint, please email me at chair@csc.tcd.ie and I'll either help you myself, or point you in the direction of somebody who can.

It's an honour to be given the chance to be involved in the running of a society, so please make the most of it and do the best job you can as I know it will pay off in the end, and you'll have one of the best years of your life.

According to the CSC constitution the responsibilities of the Chairperson are as follows:

(i) The chairing of meetings of the Committee and Executive.

(ii) The appointing of chairpersons to any sub-committees of the Executive or the Committee.

(iii) Responsibility for the overall running of the Committee.

(iv) Responsibility for staff employment and relations.

(v) Liaison with other capitated bodies and chief negotiator with bodies or person not covered in the briefs of other Officers.
