Welcome to CSC!

The Central Societies Committee (CSC) is the body responsible for student societies in Trinity College.

Secretary - Ben Clifford

Secretary of the CSC, 2010/2011

Hello, I’m Ben, the Secretary of the CSC.

I’m here to make sure the students running the Societies are communicating with one another and with the students of college.
I also help students found new Societies and follow the rules of their constitutions.

Previous to this, I was heavily involved with the Comedy Society, starting out on their subcommittee and becoming chair last year. Alongside this, I helped organise “Fringemas ’09!”, Trinity’s 2nd Fringe Festival, which went on to win “Best Event” at the Board of Irish College Awards last year. I’ve been active in society life since I arrive at college, and now in my final year, I’ve seen societies of Trinity achieve amazing things.

Much like everyone else involved with societies, I can say with hand on heart that what I’ve learnt working alongside the students in Trinity far outweighs anything I’ve learnt in a lecture hall. I’ve even seen students who are employed not for their degree, but for the skills they’ve learnt being in a society, showing that college isn’t simply what you study.
According to the CSC constitution the responsibilities of the Secretary are as follows:

    (i)    The preparation of agendas and minutes for meetings of the Committee and Executive.

(ii)    The keeping and proper archiving of the Committee's records.

(iii)    The general correspondence of the Committee.

(iv)    The legal affairs of the Committee.

    (v)    The constitutional affairs of the Committee and of societies.

(vi)    Making recommendations to the Executive regarding provisional recognitions of societies.

    (vii)    All C.S.C. Publications.

(viii)    Represent the Committee on any national Student Society Organisation to which it may affiliate.
