Choral Society

Founded in 1837, Choral Society is Trinity’s oldest and largest choir. We are a four part mixed voice choir, consisting of undergraduates, postgraduates and staff. Choral specialises in performing large scale choral works with full orchestral accompaniment both within and outside the walls of Trinity.

The Choral Society perform two or three concerts per year, with one in Michaelmas Term and one in Hilary Term. We rehearse one a week on Wednesdays, and are lead at all times by our professional conductor, David Leigh, of St Patrick’s Cathedral.

While Choral concerts are noted their high standard, you don’t have be a die-hard musician or the next Opera superstar to join the choir. Some choral experience and/or ability to read music are advantages (yes, that school choir counts as experience).  Rehearsal CDs are always available for a nominal fee.  The most important requirements are a love of singing, a taste for fun, and willingness to put in a bit of hard work! We do ask that you come to as many rehearsals as possible, as we have a limited amount of time before each concert. You’ll be singing in a section with others of your own voice (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) many of whom have a lot of choral experience and will be able to guide you and help you hit the right notes.

Each rehearsal has a refreshment break of 15 minutes where food and drink are provided. We also head out drinking after each rehearsal!
