Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC)

Trinity's branch of the Free Legal Advice Centres (FLAC) is dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of the law on society and campaigning for reform, as well as providing legal services to Trinity students.

FLAC run clinics throughout the year at which students can avail of free legal advice from a qualified solicitor. These are held every second Tuesday at 7pm in our room in the Atrium; any student can come along and seek help with their problems in an atmosphere of absolute confidentiality. And did we mention that it’s FREE?

We also hold debates, talks and receptions addressing issues relevant to citizens' access to the law. Such events are usually held about once a month and this year we will focus on areas such as intellectual property (i.e. file-sharing), libel reform, landlord and tenant law and legal issues in social justice.  We bring in top speakers from the legal, academic, NGO and political sectors to try to unravel the mystery of the law for those whom it affects – that is to say, everyone. Other events such as our Law in Movies nights and campaign meetings happen less regularly, but sign up to our mailing list or visit the news section of our regularly updated website to keep informed.

ALL students are welcome to get involved with the society – you don’t need to know anything about law (very few of us do, quite frankly). We always welcome volunteers to help support the clinics, organise our talks, promote society events, write articles for publication in the student press or help fundraise during RAG Week. When the opportunity arises, we may also conduct research into a particular social or legal issue; law students in particular are welcome to get involved with this.
