Theological Society (The Theo)

Founded in 1830, The College Theological Society (The Theo), is one of the three oldest societies in Trinity. It is the oldest student-led theological society in the world. The Theo aims to foster engaging, rigorous discourse about topics related to the studies of religion, theology and spirituality. On Monday evenings, we host speakers from a variety of backgrounds, followed by refreshments and conversation. These include academics, writers, journalists, public figures and artists. We encourage frequent student contributions to our sessions in the form of academic paper competitions, chamber debates, art and writing submissions, and open discussions. We have a library for students to borrow books and we host library lunchtimes in the Bram Stoker Room every Wednesday. The Theo also has a publication, 'Theo-Poetica', where students can share their thoughts on religion, theology, faith and spirituality, through art, writing, and photography. We value diversity of expression and experience in our society and welcome people of all faiths or none to join us. The Theo is an encouraging space where you can explore difficult questions, encounter different perspectives, express yourself and engage in thoughtful, open dialogue with others.
